Easter dresses

I made these two dresses out of some old dress shirts of my Dad’s.  Every time I go to my parents house I do two things, I raid their bookshelves for new books, I always bring a box full home with me, and I take any of their old clothes that are headed to DI.  I love using old clothes to experiment with.  It’s perfect since it’s free and headed for the trash anyway it’s no big deal if you mess it up, plus it’s sometimes hard to part with an old favorite shirt (at least for me anyway.  I hate to admit that I hang on to clothes for way too long in the hopes that some day it’ll be just what I’m looking for when in reality it just sits and collects dust and more dust taking up space). 

A while back a made a similar dress out of an old white button up shirt.  It was my practice one.  It turned out alright, but was never the perfect fit.  I did some tweaking to my pattern and now they’re just right. 

I made Sadie’s dragon t-shirt out of a shirt my Mom gave me.  Annie and I made up some good basic patterns, including this shirt pattern, when she was here last summer.  

Sadie’s pants are some that I made from a pair of corduroys I had.  They look so cute on her little bum.  I made these a while back and they’re getting short on her so we’ll have to retire those soon until the Pipester grows a bit. 

Jewelry box

I got this jewelry box at Goodwill for Sadie a while back wanting to repaint it.  I didn’t get a before picture, but just imagine old and brown.  It is on the agenda to find one to redo for Piper now.  I painted it Corriander Seed then distressed it.

Play House Extravaganza

I’ve been wanting to post all of my latest sewing projects for a while now so I have them all archived somewhere.  So here is the first of many.  I made this playhouse for the girls for Christmas.  It was such a fun project that took many many hours of tedious sewing, but in the end I love it!  I don’t think I’ll be making another playhouse of this magnitude again so enjoy it girls! 

I started with each individual panel, starting with the front door of course.  I got to use my embroidery on my sewing machine for the first time to add our address and make the mail box complete.  It’s a fun new skill I probably won’t use a whole ton, but fun when it comes in handy. 

Side view.  I had really good intentions to make flowers with long stems that they could take in and out of the flower boxes, but those have yet to be started/completed……and may never make it to the playhouse. 

I used an applique stitch to attach the trees, shrubs, mailbox, garden (pretty much everything except pockets, curtains, and door).  This is one of the many parts that was so time consuming, but I really wanted to use cotton fabrics I just love the different patterns/colors it adds.  I could have used felt and sewn them on using a straight stitch which would have saved LOADS of time. 

 

The lovely garden.  The corn and carrots can come out of their pockets and the lettuce is attached with velcro.   The girls favorite part. 

Inside view, with our lovely Piper as model.  I put a bunch of pockets on the inside using whatever random fabric scraps I could scrounge up to keep all of their treasures and mail.

A house isn’t complete without a fireplace and bookshelf! This was my favorite part to make.  I hope it warms their little hearts while they play!

The curtains have velcro tabs so they can open and shut them at will. 

 

I did the top this way to save money.  It was getting a little expensive with all that canvas. 

And there you have it!  A little house of fun.  I made another of these houses for my brother’s family for Christmas only it was made out of felt and made to fit a card table.  It took way less time and was significantly cheaper using all felt.  It turned out cute.

My belly is seriously feeling huge already.  It’s hard to imagine that our bodies can stretch and contort to accommodate these babies and then go back to some sort of normalcy when we’re done.  Pretty amazing.  I’m already dreading all the work it’ll take to get get back into my old jeans.  For now, I’m trying not to think about that since I have a lot more lbs to pack on in the next few months.  I’m crossing my fingers that nursing goes well this time around to help take it off…..I had a nightmare the other night that I couldn’t nurse my baby….I was in quite a panic by the time I woke up.  Not just for the weightloss perks of course but because of all the other benefits.  I’ll be the first to admit that bottle feeding is so nice and convenient, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything if I can help it. 

Easter!

I love any holiday really, but I was really looking forward to Easter this year.  It was a little chillier than we’d hoped it’d be so there weren’t a ton of outside adventures, but we did go out to the Thornton egg hunt and had a fun time there.  It was a fun 5 minutes of scramble.  My favorite part was seeing some of the more aggressive parents shoving eggs into their kids baskets. 

Piper of course didn’t want anything to do with this large toothed bunny.   Sadie gave her some extra love from Pipes.

After our hunt for eggs we headed home to do some egg dying. 

The anticipation was almost unbearable for some.

Easter morning was a little rushed, we had stake conference at 10am so we were on a strict schedule.  Get ready, eat breakfast, find Easter baskets, get to church on time!  Success. 

They were in heaven. 

It was such a wonderful day.  Stake conference was great we had the privilege of having Elder Perry come speak.  It was such a great day to reflect on all the blessings in our lives.  I am so grateful to have the knowledge of the resurrection and to be able to hear our prophet and apostles testify of Christ.  We are so blessed!
