Determined and resourceful

Two character traits that are a strong part of Sadie's personality. I'm finding more all the time to what extent she'll take her determination.

For example, yesterday Ryan was wrestling with her because Sadie had been teasing and pestering him for a while. He catches her in his "cage" and says you can get out whenever you want just say, 'I won't touch your face anymore.'

Simple right? Not for Sadie. She responds with.... "I will not say that!"

Sadie: "I know!, I'll just get out all my own."

and so she tries......and tries.......but to no avail.

For a while she's content in her cage, and then she turns anxious. Still she won't succumb. Eventually she cries and her nice Dad lets her out. She won. She always wins. It was then that I realized her determination has no end.

Now how do we parent/discipline a child with such a strong willed spirit so that it isn't always a battle to the finish?

Yesterday she did something else that just made me chuckle. She was resisting her nap (I don't blame her, it was only 10:30 in the morning, but with church at 1pm I thought I'd give it a try). She was playing with some letters and I asked her what one of the letters was, she didn't know and I told her if she could tell me what that letter was (the letter E) then she wouldn't have to take a nap. She perked up real quick and thought and thought with many wrong guesses. 5 min. later she comes back and she says "Mom, It's the letter E!" In her other hand she's holding the alphabet magnet from the fridge that sings what each one is. Sneaky.
