Tschuss! (good-bye)

Here we come, Switzerland! we're just getting ready to leave for our trip. I am so stinkin' excited and am trying hard not to think about what the next 16hrs will bring. I keep telling myself its just a few hours of my life.....we can totally do this. no big deal, right?? I sure hope so! My bags are packed to the brim and I have enough snacks in my cary-on to feed a small primary. Wish me luck!

Aufwiedersehen! (German transltion- till we see you again!)

I could never be a nurse

I applaud all of the nurses and medical personel, I realize now I could never do their job. Last saturday Ryan and I were at Walmart doing a little shopping, while we were nolchalantly doing our business we came across a woman holding her baby (probably about sadie's age) looking quite calm with several people gathered around her. It took me a minute to realize something was not right with her baby. The baby had just had a seizure and was now laying very limp in his mother arms. There was a man on the phone calling 911 and another woman giving her advice. I stood watching them (she had all the help she could use), I was transfixed, I knew there was nothing more I could do to help, but I couldn't turn away. I would say I am a very emotional person always have been. Other people's situations touch me deeply and leave a big impact on me, just as this one did. I stood there for several minutes looking on feeling helpless and feeling like my heart was going to break for this mother. I was imagining myself in her situation and knew I would not have been so composed. The mother was very calmly holding her little boy while whispering to him. There I am, in no way connected to this woman or her situation, crying in the middle of walmart over it. (I wasn't sobbing, but more than one tear slid down my face as I watched). I have still been thinking about this incident and am feeling more blessed than ever for ours and sadie's health. What a blessing to be healthy. I hope I never take that for granted.

During college I was dead set on applying to nursing schools, I am very glad I had a change of heart and went for Food Science instead. I don't think I could handle all of those high stress and heart rending situations.
