All my sewing ladies take note!

"When you sew, make yourself as attractive as possible. Go through a beauty ritual of orderliness. Have on a clean dress. Be sure your hands are clean, finger nails smooth--a nail file and pumice will help. Always avoid hangnails. Have your hair in order, powder and lipstick put on with care. Looking attractive is a very important part of sewing.
Again sewing must be approached with the idea that you are going to enjoy it, and if you are constantly fearful that a visitor will drop in or your husband come home and you will not look neatly put together, you will not enjoy your sewing as you should. Therefore "spruce up" at the beginning so that you are free to enjoy every part of any sewing you do."

Singer Sewing Book - A complete reference guide to sewing 1953

This is a little gem I came across in my readings today. My Mom gave me this sewing book a while back and today I decided to peruse it and see what I could learn. And this is what I have taken away. Beautiful isn't it?? I pay strict heed. Really I do.

I did actually glean a little more knowledge from this book along with this wonderful tid bit, some great 'new' techniques (new to me anyway) and got some fun new ideas to try out in the future.

Oh my gosh I am seriously laughing so hard!!!! My favorite part is about being "fearful that a visitor or your husband could come home...". Thanks for the chuckle this evening.

Oh, just finished "The Proposal" (like 2 minutes ago). LOVED IT! Tom's in denial, but I'm pretty sure he loved it too.

WOW! If only I had read something like this sooner. It seems I am not enjoying sewing as much as I should! It is pretty rare the days Ryan comes home to find me "spruced up"!
Are you just loving the new machine?!

Haha! That is hilarious!

No wonder I was so frustrated last night sewing a project into the wee hours. I hadn't powdered my nose beforehand. tisk, tisk.

that's hysterical. i have to say that i break that golden rule...i typically do my sewing in my grubby pj's while eating junk food. anyone who stops by mid-project will wonder what in the world has exploded in my home and laugh at my horrible fashion sense. too funny miriam!!!

That was great! Seriously though, doesn't everyone put on lipstick with care before sitting down to sew? HA! That was so funny.
