It is a big fat Negative on the whole learning to fall asleep on her own. She still cries just as long before falling asleep as she did before. I really really wanted this to be our sleep solution for Piper but it just didn't work. We tried it from Monday til Sunday and I was so strong, I didn't cave in and rock her to sleep even when it was taking well into the 2nd hour of crying to fall asleep....I didn't cave when she still wasn't sleeping and it was now time for her next feeding.....and I didn't cave when my ears were ringing with the sounds of crying after a long long day.....and STILL my child doesn't sleep! Okay she does sleep, but only after alot of struggling.
I'm really at a loss of what to do now, so my current strategy is do whatever gets her to sleep. I don't care if she's swung, rocked, or snuggled to sleep, just as long as she sleeps. I really don't mean to complain so much, she really is a good happy baby when she's fed and awake, but she definately has an aversion to sleep. Even at night she has a hard hard time falling back asleep after nursing. I'm just going to stop stressing about getting her into a good sleep routine and start enjoying her happy times more. That's my plan.
I ordered Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child early this week and am anxiously waiting for it to arrive. I hope it has some good tips!
So I really want to put some pictures up, but for some reason I can't figure it out. The layout has changed and I can't seem to find the add a picture, spellcheck, or any of those other buttons....hmm

oh Miriam! I'm so sorry for you guys! Is Sadie able to sleep with all the "singing" from Piper? Good luck!
Sorry! I don't even have a bit of advice. Cooper has one of those fish bowls in his crib that plays music and makes bubble sounds. He likes that. And when Noah was little, I bought a stuffed animal that made the same sounds that a baby would hear in the womb, like your muffled heartbeat. That worked for him. Good luck!
Do you think she might have "colic" (whatever that is)? All I know about colic is that it makes babies cry. Alot. One trick we learned from our pediatrician was to use Gripe Water. Its more of a homeopathic tratement for gas bubbles and tummy troubles. We bought some at our local drugstore. You can find it with the infant and children's medicines. Let me know if you try it!
Miriam this is Holly, Mike Stewart's wife. I found your blog from Grandma Stewart. Your kids are adorable. Tessa was a really hard baby the first little while, and I couldn't get her to sleep. I tried a bunch of things. I read "The Best Baby on the Block". It worked!!! There is also a movie at most libraries. It was some advice I got from Mike's cousin. Maybe give it a try. Also thank you for the pictures you sent for Christmas for G and G Stewart. They were perfect!
So my advice...try every single sleep position known to man. It took me three weeks to figure out that in order for Shaeffer to REALLY sleep the curtains needed to be shut, he needed to be on his belly, butt in the air, binky in the mouth and the corner of his blanket touching his cheeck. He just barely started to sleep really well (two one hour naps, and one three hour nap...plus 10 straight hours of sleep at night) And i thought that was TOO much sleep...but if he misses a nap, shoot, he has a terrible night.
